As a founder of Spring Media Solutions and the creator of Bank Monitor, my journey started with a passion for community banks and their crucial role in local economies.

After more than 20 years in banking, I developed an innovative solution to help banks and credit unions manage the challenges of social media compliance.

A Banking Career Rooted in Community

I began my career in banking in 1995, holding various senior roles in human resources, sales and service, and retail. Being a community banker gave me a deep appreciation for the vital role these institutions play in supporting local businesses and individuals. Over the years, I developed a strong understanding of the unique challenges these smaller institutions face.

Back in 2007, as social media platforms like Facebook started to become popular, banks began to realize the potential of social media marketing and customer engagement. Like many banks at the time, we were excited by this new opportunity to connect with our customers online. However, back then, the main challenge was simply figuring out how to create content that would capture attention.

The Turning Point: FFIEC Social Media Guidance

Fast forward to 2013, and everything changed when the FFIEC (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council) issued its Social Media: Consumer Compliance Risk Management Guidance. This introduced a new layer of complexity for community banks and credit unions.

Suddenly, it wasn’t just about marketing anymore. Banks were now required to adhere to strict regulations regarding social media activity. This guidance outlined seven key areas that banks had to address, including managing reputational risk, ensuring data privacy, and maintaining compliance with consumer protection laws.

As the banker responsible for our bank’s social media strategy, I quickly realized how difficult it would be to manage these regulations without the right tools. Many smaller banks, like ours, didn’t have the resources or technology to stay compliant while managing their social media presence. This challenge made me tighten up my bootstraps, roll up my sleeves, and figure it out.

Creating Bank Monitor: A Solution Built by a Banker for Bankers

Seeing this overwhelming need, I set out on a mission to create a solution that would help community banks and credit unions take the hassle out of social media compliance and make the process easier and more automated. That’s how Bank Monitor was born.

Bank Monitor is a comprehensive tool that allows financial institutions to capture, track, and monitor social media content for potential regulatory violations. It was designed specifically to meet the needs of community banks, helping them protect their reputations and comply with FFIEC social media guidelines.

What makes Bank Monitor unique is its combination of automated technology with white-glove service. In addition to providing a cutting-edge platform, I offer hands-on support by creating customized risk management programs, social media policies, and training programs and guiding them through the compliance process. My goal has always been to take the burden of social media compliance off their shoulders, allowing them to focus on what they do best: serving their communities.

Looking Ahead: My Vision for Bank Monitor

The success of Bank Monitor in my own community bank fueled my passion to expand this service nationwide. Today, Bank Monitor is helping community banks across the country confidently manage their social media presence without the fear of regulatory risks.

Looking to the future, I envision Bank Monitor continuing to evolve and offering even more robust solutions for digital compliance. As regulations grow more complex, my mission is to ensure that small banks and credit unions have access to the same level of protection and expertise as their larger counterparts.

Why I’m Passionate About Supporting Community Banks

At the heart of Spring Media Solutions is my deep belief in the importance of community banks and credit unions.
